The RAM Cartridges and the Sega Saturn

I take a look at the various cartridge options you have on the Saturn and the games that support them. I'm now on Patreon! Saturn games captured on real hardware. Arcade footage via MAME. 2. The cuts in these games really are quite uniform. Often ducking animations are cutback, as are things like smoke and idle stances. Similar cuts across King of Fighters 96/97, Cyberbots/Marvel Super Heroes, as well as Samurai Shodown 3/4. 3. Crappy quality 3rd party cartridges can make slowdown worse in games like Metal Slug. I highly advise OEM carts if you are serious about performance. 4. These games use the RAM carts: 1MB ------- Astra Superstars† Cotton 2† Cyberbots: FullMetal Madness† Fighter's History Dynamite Friends: Seishun no Kagayaki† Groove On Fight: Gouketsuji Ichizoku 3 Marvel Super Heroes† Metal Slug Noël 3† Pia Carrot e Youkoso!! 2† Real Bout Garou Densetsu* Real Bout Garou Densetsu Best Collection Real Bout Garou Densetsu Special Samurai Spirits Amakusa Kourin* Samurai Spirits Best Collection Samurai Spirits Zankurou Musouken Super Real Maajan P7† The King of Fighters '96* The King of Fighters '96 + '95 (Gentei KOF Double Pack)* The King of Fighters '97 The King of Fighters Best Collection Waku Waku 7 *1MB only † optional 4MB ------- Astra Superstars† Cotton 2† Cyberbots: FullMetal Madness Dungeons & Dragons Collection* (Shadow over Mystara only) Fighter's History Dynamite Final Fight Revenge* Friends: Seishun no Kagayaki Groove On Fight: Gouketsuji Ichizoku 3 Marvel Super Heroes† Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter* Metal Slug Noël 3† Pia Carrot e Youkoso!! 2 Pocket Fighter†* Real Bout Garou Densetsu Best Collection Real Bout Garou Densetsu Special Samurai Spirits Best Collection Samurai Spirits Zankurou Musouken Street Fighter Zero 3* Super Real Maajan P7† The King of Fighters '97 The King of Fighters Best Collection Vampire Savior: The Lord of Vampire* Waku Waku 7 X-Men vs. Street Fighter* *4MB only † optional 5. I always envisioned a port of Resident Evil 2 on the Saturn running with a 4MB RAM cart. Could have been a hell of a version. 6. Playing King of Fighters 95 and Ultraman can be tough if you own a non Japanese system. Since the two require their own ROM carts you simply can't slap a Pro Action Replay in there. It's one of the reasons why I recommend owning a Japanese system. 7. Many of these games are still affordable. In fact, some are an outright steal. 8. You may notice that some of the animation comparison footage looks at different resolutions. That's because they are. I captured the MAME arcade footage at 1080p and the most of the Saturn footage at 480p. I didn't consider the conflict until I had uploaded the video. The animation is the focus there, however, so I think its still works. 9. My daughter was an incredible help in capturing for this video. She played 1/4 of the titles you see with no help from me. 10. Astra Super Stars actually has a 1MB and 4MB RAM mode, supporting both cartridge's. I forgot to mention the latter.
